Help I keep freezing to death in the snow biome

I've been playing ark on the Xbox one since it came out. It's been a lot of fun but I've been having trouble in the snow biome. I want to go there and explore buy each time I enter it I start freezing to death. I know you can get pelts but I haven't been able to travel deep enough to gather enough to make some fur armor. If there's any tips on how to get a lot of pelts I'd love to hear some. Thanks

Once I went to the arctic, I hauled butt to find an animal with pelt. I quickly found a few Dire Wolves, killed them, and looted them, then ran away. I built a Smithy on my raft so I could then create and equip my fur. Be careful though as Rexs like to be in the beach area often times...I lost my raft etc once from that.
