I would like to suggest a moat were crocodiles (water animals) can swim in, as well as bastion towers where some turrets can be placed.

That would be cool. I'm not sure you could make a container that changes the dimensions of the ground, but maybe a tile that can be irrigated and fills with water. You'd need to build your base in a basin of some sort and put it on stilts or something.
