Missing Levels

So I thought I discovered a bug not too long ago where I gained 2 levels(low lvl character) before spending the stat boost(not engrams) from the first level. This resulted in me only being able to apply 1 stat boost for gaining 2 lvls(obviously incorrect). I thought maybe I had just made a mistake and couldn't count or something and brushed it off.
Then today when one of my friends joined the game for the first time and I was helping him get started out, he gained 4 levels... and only 1 stat boost. This is a very serious issue if it is unintended, permanently losing 6% runspeed, or 30 to a stat for example is very significant. This is true ESPECIALLY FOR NEW PLAYERS, since it would affect them the most as they are new and don't understand the game fully, and at low levels you are much more likely to forget to spend that point and gain another level, losing it permanently in the process.
Do you all think it is an intended feature that not spending the points as you go causes you to permanently lose them? I would think not.
My suggestion would be to change the skill system to be more like the engram system where they simply accumulate and can be spent later once you decide what stats you want to put points into. I would also love to see the devs make a way to regain those lost points on currently existing characters so we don't have to remake new characters just to get the stats we deserve.
I also suspect this same thing occurs with tamed dinos gaining multiple levels without spending the points, but I have not tested that.
So beware, do not stack multiple levels without spending those points guys!
(edited because I am new and learned these are not the official forums, and they actually don't even have one. Brilliant!)
